Routine pool maintenance will help keep your pool sparkling clean and always inviting for use at any moment. Check the water level

Is it too high or too low? You should be able to determine if the water is at the right level at a glance. For optimal performance, your pool water needs to be at the center level of your pool skimmer or pool tile. If the water is too high, the skimmer door will not function properly. If the water is too low, the pump may run dry and burn up. After a heavy downpour, you can siphon water using a hose or use a submersible pump to reduce the water level.

Inspect the pump and filter

This will require you to check the reading at the filter pressure gauge. If the pressure reading is normal, it will be a clear sign that there is an uninterrupted flow of water through the filter. If the pressure is lower, it could be a sign that the water level is low, the baskets are full, or the valves are closed. High pressure also indicates that there is a problem that you need to fix fast. The fluctuation of pressure could also result from the change in position of the valve. Remember to clean your filter regularly or as recommended.

Check chlorine and pH

Check the and pH level 1-2 time a week if not daily to ensure they are at the right levels. These levels should be kept constant with no valleys or peaks. The pH level should be kept between 7.4 and 7.8 while the chlorine level should be 1-2 ppm. The lower the pH, the less the chlorine your pool will require. Control the pH of your pool properly and you will use much less chlorine.

Check the pool cleaner

If your pool cleaner operates for about two to four hours in a day, you need to monitor the bag and empty it as often as needed. It is not a good idea to run the cleaner daily so as to reduce wear and tear. Running the cleaner two to three times a week for averagely three and a half hours will be enough.

Inspect the baskets

Most pump baskets have a clear lid so that you can easily check if the basket is filled up or if the flow is uninterrupted. The skimmer has the role of skimming the surface of the pool before debris, and other contaminants get saturated and sink to the bottom of the pool. Always ensure the skimmer basket is emptied as needed for it to function efficiently. Keep it clean at all times.
